However, the good news is that there are several ways to solve this problem, as long as you first make sure the cause of the problem.

How to tell if your hard disk usage is 100%

First of all, it is very important to identify the source of the problem and whether the problem is in using the hard drive 100%. The process to control it is quite easy, since all you have to do is press Ctrl + Alt + Del . Then select the task manager. As you can see in the photo below, in the third column you will see the use of the Windows 10 hard drive. If you find that your hard drive is working at 100%, then you should follow the steps that we will analyze below.

The first step you need to take and in many cases fix the problem of using the hard drive at 100% is to analyze the disk. After locating the hard drive in the exploration files, right-click and select the properties. The hard disk control is available on the Tools tab (see the photo below).

Hard Disk Control

Once the test is complete, it is very likely that he will notice the problem and suggest repairing it. You may need to restart your computer. If the problem is not fixed, you should proceed to the next solution.

DETECTING THE CAUSE OF HARD DISK USAGE AT 100%

Since controlling the hard drive has not fixed the problem, you will need to do a further search of the cause, or better application that creates the huge use of your hard drive. By reopening the task manager, you can see in detail all the applications used and which of them consumes the largest percentage of the disk. Some of the most common applications that cause huge consumption of hard disk resources in Windows 10 are:

  1. The Windows update
  2. Windows Search
  3. The superfetch
  4. Diagnostic Tracking (DiagTrack)
  5. Skype

WINDOWS 10 UPDATE

If the problem is caused by the Windows update then it would be good to close all unnecessary applications. Then you need to update windows 10. After restarting your computer most likely the problem has been resolved.

SEARCH FOR WINDOWS, SUPERFETCH OR DIAGTRACK

If the 100% hard drive fault is one of these three services, then you can easily disable them using the Windows CMD command line. After typing "cmd" in the windows search, right-click on the command line and run the application as an administrator. The commands you should write to disable these three applications are:

α) sc config “DiagTrack” start = disabled β) sc stop “DiagTrack”

USE A 100% HARD DRIVE DUE TO SKYPE
There have been several reports that the application of Skype requires several resources of the system, resulting in a large percentage of the hard drive. Although you owe the problem to this application, all you have to do is end any running process. And of course turn off any program services running at the start of your computer. So when you don't use the application it won't cause you any problems.

COMPUTER TESTING FOR VIRUSES AND MALWARE

If none of the above fixes your hard drive usage to 100% then it is very likely that the Windows 10 you are using has been infected with a virus or malware. So it would be good to do a complete check with the antivirus as well as with some antimalware.

CLEANING THE COMPUTER FOR AN OVERALL INCREASE IN PERFORMANCE

A thorough cleaning of your computer is likely to not only solve 100% of hard drive usage but greatly increase the overall performance of Windows 10.
